Every day you should do even a little something for your business right? Today was a solid day of finally catching up on support tickets, cleaning out email, and even releasing a small patch in MD184.108.40.206. Luckily none of those patches had anything to do with the Stream, so all good there! I really do enjoy talking to you all and helping you out with your websites. Looking over my plans as I wind down for the night to take that help to the next level.
MD news & updates
See what's new in MD development and from around the community.
Catching up on the support log over at the forums, fell behind while developing the newest MD release. Between the way I develop and the ambitions I have for MD this year, I just can’t do this alone anymore. We all suffer when I can’t put my full attention into the community side of MD, just as we do when my full focus isn’t on development. Hoping to pull someone I trust on sooner rather than later.
From idea to launch, I’m happy to announce that the very same stream you see here is now available in Marketers Delight 4.8.4 and ready for you to use right now! Just read this to find out more:
Testing the Stream and the rest of MD4.8.4 on other sites before release. I’m happy to report that the Stream displays great on other MD theme designs and there were only a couple of small bugs to fix up. Glad I found them before release. The speed at which this was ready to go and the seamless integration of this big new feature on different test installations is a testament to why I build MD as a single theme. I could maintain a bunch of plugins and do it the “right” way, but I’d never be able to be the best by diving into that madness. Instead MD is a tightly knit, efficient product that gets smarter each release.
Here’s a test of that idea… This is the first TEST entry in creating a threaded status. To expand on any idea or news event as they happen, you can now create threads in your status to keep them up to date. This allows you to use streams as pages for updating a news/story event, or gradually documenting an idea or goal over time.
After today’s work, MD4.8.4 is basically ready to go… but there’s just one last thing the Stream needs to really make it pop. Let’s see how this turns out…
Remember this screenshot of the Stream post editor from a few days ago? You’ll notice a select box at the top of the editor that allowed you to choose the type of post to share — status, post, image, video, or other. This was ok, but not ideal. I redesigned the experience to treat every post as a status, and if you enter a post ID, the Stream will embed it into your status and detect which post type to format it as. Less decisions, more automation – a big deal!
Amongst the last details to make MD4.8.4 ready to go, you can now expect a slightly redesigned Popups settings in the WP admin. I have bigger plans to expand this feature into something more powerful, but it doesn’t hurt to clean it up a little in the meantime. Also new: The Stream, redesigned Dashboard, hooks, and more.
Building out the new MD Labs page (warning: under construction!) on the Marketers Delight site. This will become a full membership hub for all members of the MD Labs, and the place where you will soon get the greatest custom development resources you’ve never seen before. First things first is to start with the foundation of it all: the revamped code snippets library!
Pay attention over the next couple of weeks as I rebuild this site.
All kinds of new MD content and releases will follow sooner than you think.
This year I’m going to the next level. Welcome to the MD Labs.
