After today’s work, MD4.8.4 is basically ready to go… but there’s just one last thing the Stream needs to really make it pop. Let’s see how this turns out…
What's new in MD
The Stream is the best place to find the latest releases, tutorials, and other content from across the MD community.
Remember this screenshot of the Stream post editor from a few days ago? You’ll notice a select box at the top of the editor that allowed you to choose the type of post to share — status, post, image, video, or other. This was ok, but not ideal. I redesigned the experience to treat every post as a status, and if you enter a post ID, the Stream will embed it into your status and detect which post type to format it as. Less decisions, more automation – a big deal!
Amongst the last details to make MD4.8.4 ready to go, you can now expect a slightly redesigned Popups settings in the WP admin. I have bigger plans to expand this feature into something more powerful, but it doesn’t hurt to clean it up a little in the meantime. Also new: The Stream, redesigned Dashboard, hooks, and more.
Building out the new MD Labs page (warning: under construction!) on the Marketers Delight site. This will become a full membership hub for all members of the MD Labs, and the place where you will soon get the greatest custom development resources you’ve never seen before. First things first is to start with the foundation of it all: the revamped code snippets library!
Pay attention over the next couple of weeks as I rebuild this site.
All kinds of new MD content and releases will follow sooner than you think.
This year I’m going to the next level. Welcome to the MD Labs.
It’s like tweeting but now you have an edit button. 😀
Let’s play a game this month called #NoCacheNovember. The goal is to find out if your site can survive a whole month without a cache plugin enabled. Cache plugins improve site performance but tend to cover up big mistakes that lie under-the-hood (and make it hard to see new changes!). What will you learn about the health your site by disabling it for a month? Find out during #NoCacheNovember!
Starting the work day by setting up a new site on MD for a small client project then moving to work on a LearnDash integration into another new site later. The best way I’ve found to keep improving the core of MD is to use it on different kinds of websites and plugins, then pass that knowledge back into the product. The secret to any success I’ve found as a small theme shop owner is to keep all of the work I do connected, and following this strategy has gotten MD to the point it’s at today.
