Magic Loops
A Front Page That Builds Itself
WordPress lists your content in loops: the front page, every category, every tag, every author. Set how posts are listed once, and every one of those loops inherits it.

The problem
Your Front Page Is a Loop. So Is Every Category.
WordPress lists content in loops, one for the front page and one for every category, tag, and author. Most themes make you set up each one on its own, so a deep site means a lot of repeating.
Without Md
- Loop settings repeated on every template
- Categories that look nothing like your blog
- Columns and post counts set one archive at a time
- A new category that starts from scratch
With Magic Loops
- Set options once and every archive inherits them
- Categories match your blog until you change them
- Columns, featured posts, and counts at any level
- Blank fields inherit, so you override only what differs
How it works
Set It Once. It Keeps Up.
Choose a view, set the defaults, then override only where it counts.

Choose a view
Pick Article view for a traditional blog, or List view for a condensed list.

Set the defaults
Set columns, featured posts, excerpts, and images for the whole post type.

Override where it counts
Change a category or term and leave everything else alone.
Inheritance
One Setting, Every Archive
Loop options cascade from the post type to its taxonomies and terms, so your whole category tree can share one setup. Leave a field blank and it inherits from the level above, so a change to the parent reaches every child.
- Post type, taxonomy, and term levels
- Columns, featured posts, order, and posts per page
- Blank fields inherit, filled fields override

Views
Article, List, or Grouped by Category
Article view is a flexible blog with its own styles. List view is a condensed list. You can also list posts by category, or group them by date.
- Article view, the default
- List view for condensed lists
- List posts by category, or group by month

Control
Fine Control Over Every Entry
Show the full post, an excerpt, or just the title. Set the featured image position and size, choose how readers page through, and decide the sort order.
- Full post, excerpt, or title only
- Featured image position and size
- Page numbers or previous and next

Questions
Questions, Answered
The things people ask most about Magic Loops. Still curious? Read the docs.
What does inherit mean for a loop setting?
Leave a field blank on a category and it takes the value from its post type. Fill it in and that category uses its own value.
Can I show posts in columns?
Yes. Set the number of columns on the post type, then change it for a category or term. Blank fields keep inheriting.
What views are available?
Article view, a flexible blog layout, and List view, a condensed list. You can also list posts under each category.
Can readers page through posts?
Yes. Choose page numbers or previous and next links, and set the link labels.
